To The Editor:
Legislator John M.. Kennedy (12th District, Suffolk County) is an upstanding, principled representative who has consistently looked for ways to improve the safety, well being and quality of life of his constituents. His accomplishments range from introducing legislation doubling the number of GPS systems monitoring sexual predators (probably the most effective and well proven method of monitoring and controlling the behavior of these criminals); to obtaining funding to revitalize Main Street in Smithtown; to championing the construction of a dog park within Blydenburgh Park.
An important measure of an elected representative’s performance is how well they attend to the minutiae which have long term effects on their constituency. John Kennedy’s advocacy of sewer system expansion within the district is a perfect example. This unglamorous issue is an important foundation upon which the continued economic vitality of the area depends.
Insight into Kennedy’s character may be obtained by observing how he has behaved in difficult circumstances. Kennedy’s response to the mudslinging of Vincent J. Trimarco and his cohorts is indeed telling. In each instance Kennedy has emphatically refuted the slander while refusing to bend his ethics and principles by responding in kind. Who should represent Suffolk County’s 12th District, a man of dubious principle who condones any behavior, any lie, any misdirection in an attempt to win or a man who has the integrity and strength of character to always strive for the higher plane? I opt for the latter and strongly urge support for Legislator John M. Kennedy in the upcoming Republican primary on September 18th.
